About Krakow

Krakow, a former capital of Poland (Central Europe), is one of the largest and oldest City in this country, the city dates back to the 7th century. As the former national capital with a long history, the city remains the spiritual heart of Poland.

The population of Krakow is something about 800000 right now (about 2% of the population of Poland). At present Krakow is the capital city of the Malopolskie - province in the southern Poland. The City is traditionally a leading centre of Polish cultural and artistic life. Some years ago in 2000 Krakow was named the European Capital of Culture by the European Union. Kraków has 50 museums and public art galleries, 11 theatres and a philharmonic. There are 11 universities here, including the oldest university in Poland. There are more then 170000 students in this city.

The architectural complex of old town has been entered on the UNESCO list. The most characteristic places in Krakow are: Cracow Main Market square, Wawel - Krakow Castle and Blonie - huge meadow in the middle of a big city.

Krakow is a major attraction for local and international tourists (visit Poland with TrekPoland). Wikipedia says that the city is attracting more then seven million visitors every year.
